As a notary public, a big part of my job is to help reduce the cost and impact that fraud has on everyone, and one of the ways I do that is by verifying that you are who you say you are before I notarize or certify a copy of a document for you.
You can use these types of identification (ID) to verify your identity as long as they are current or expired for less than one (1) year:
- A U.S. or foreign passport, a U.S. or foreign driver’s license, or other U.S. or foreign government-issued identification card
- A U.S. military personnel ID card or a U.S. military dependent ID card
- Another government-issued ID that has your photograph or your signature
- A credible witness who can present one of the above IDs and is willing to swear they know you.
